More on WoW: BC UI lockdown pwnage

Oh noes!Get ready to be pwned, guys. This is pure pwnage to the nth degree, you wouldn’t know what hit you. With Burning Crusade‘s release, a bunch of UI functions are going to be locked down whoa. The restrictions will render UI mods such as Decursive and Benecast (or any other addon with click-able lists) as useful as a loaf of bread against a dragon.

Restrictions:

  • A key or button MUST be the trigger to target something or cast a spell
  • The function of a button or key cannot be changed in combat
  • Any part of the interface that uses an ability or changes targets won’t be able to move, hide, or show while in combat
  • Macros cannot be modified during combat

Exceptions:

  • PLAYER_REGEN_DISABLED is called before buttons are locked. This means you can still make bars change function when you enter combat.
  • Very simple automated decisions are allowed such as a druid casting a different spell depending on whether they are in cat or bear form.
  • Click casting will still be possible.
  • Addons that make use of a “Tank List” will still work. The tank list will simply not be able to be modified during combat

While you guys might be doing your own “Oh Noes” dances of defeat, don’t worry. Look on the bright side. Maybe sometime in the future, some people might find ways to get around these restrictions. Given that Blizzard just announced BCwill be released in 2007, that gives you guys lots of time to prepare for the pwnage.
