Yoda in Soul Calibur 4 - Image 1Many were surprised when Namco Bandai announced Yoda and Darth Vader‘s appearances on Soul Calibur 4 (Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3), then they were disappointed that only one character will be on either console. To explain why the developers made this decision, product marketing manager Wayne Shiu talked about how they associated characters to what platform they’ll be fighting on. Yoda in Soul Calibur 4 - Image 1Nobody expected Namco Bandai to actually bring Star Wars characters to Soul Calibur 4 (Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3), but now that it did, a few questions are hanging in the air. While SC4‘s product marketing manager Wayne Shiu didn’t say how Darth Vader and Yoda will fight, he did explain the reason behind separating the two as exclusives on their respective platforms.

When asked why Namco Bandai decided not to put two characters together, Shiu told Siliconera, “With Soul Calibur 2 we had platform exclusive characters, but this time around we wanted to give each platform a signature character.”

As to how the developers picked who goes to what platform, he explained, “We decided to bring Vader to the PS3 because he’s dark and black. Then Yoda went to the Xbox 360 because he’s green.”

Shiu did say that things can change since Soul Calibur 4 haven’t seen its release yet, and didn’t deny the possibility of putting characters up for download if players really want to see the Jedi master fight the dark lord. However, he doesn’t see cross-platform matches between PS3 and Xbox 360 as something likely to happen.
