New PSP, PS3 puzzle game via PSN: Numblast crunches in with trailer

Numblast - Image 1Developed by the same guys who did Mr. Driller, Sony‘s got a new puzzle game to wrap your heads (and thumbs) around with. In the works for both the PSP and PS3, via PlayStation Network download, Numblast involves rotating a 2×2 grid in order to align the same numbers (or if you think like me, align same-colored squares) on a board. Lining up the same numbers eliminates them from the board, and if you can bring other numbers into the chain, reduce the entire playing area to smithereens by doing combos.

The game is called Qruton in Japan, and will eventually be localized into English in the form of Numblast in Europe (no confirmation for North America yet though).

As with other puzzle games, Numblast has a main story mode, plus Endless Mode, Time Trial, and Puzzle Mode. Here’s a bit of a gameplay demo vid from the Japanese version:

No specific release dates for Qruton/Numblast just yet, but according to the official PlayStation UK site, it’s slated for June 2009. Current price is JPÂ¥ 1000 (around US$10).
