New Zealand to get edited version of Grand Theft Auto 4 as well?

A map of New Zealand - Image 1As much as possible, we like to get complete, uncensored versions of games, don’t we? Unfortunately, the Aussies aren’t the only folks who will be getting an edited version of Rockstar North‘s Grand Theft Auto 4 – New Zealanders will, too. More censorship abounds in the full article, right after the jump.

It’s likely that the folks in the Land Down Under aren’t too happy about Rockstar North‘s move to produce an edited version of Grand Theft Auto 4 (PS3, Xbox 360) for them. At least they won’t be alone, though. According to reports, New Zealand will eventually be able to empathize with them.

Apparently, a New Zealand-based retailer by the name of gpstore.co.nz got wind of the news and then informed an Australian gamer who ordered the game from it. That player then spread the word to the rest of the gaming community.

This is the statement that gpstore reportedly made to the customer:

We have been informed today that New Zealand will be receiving the same version of Grand Theft Auto 4 as Australia.

As you have placed your order after Rockstar announced that the Australian version was edited, we are assuming that you will no longer require the game to be shipped from us, as we can’t supply you with an uncut version.

The last thing we want to do is supply you with a product that does not meet your needs and we’ve therefore taken the liberty of removing your GTA4 order from our web site.

One Aussie player by the name of trog lauded gpstore for being proactive and honest about the matter. Nevertheless, we have yet to hear from the New Zealand gaming community regarding this turn of events. It also makes us wonder which country will be next, if at all.

Props to Quixand for giving us a heads up on the story!
