After Nintendo scored zero in the Guide to Greener Electronics report by Greenpeace, it’s inevitable to get a reply from the video game giant that uses recycled paper for game manuals and shipping packaging.

According to a customer service representative from Nintendo:

We were surprised by the content of the Greenpeace report, given that we take great care to comply with all relevant regulations on avoiding the use of dangerous materials, recycling, etc. For example, all Nintendo products supplied worldwide are designed to comply with relevant global standards.

Nintendo’s reply to an inquiry about being the first global brand to score zero across all Greenpeace criteria also mentioned the Green Procurement Standards the company established, which “requires component suppliers to certify that any parts they deliver do not include hazardous chemical substances, and ensure that Nintendo fully controls its products internally parts from suppliers.”

Ninty scored nil in Greenpeace’s books because no information was available when the Guide to Greener Electronics was made, as stated in the guide’s breakdown report. Looks like we can expect better numbers on Nintendo’s scorecards if Greenpeace can acquire more details regarding Nintendo’s procedures, and we’ll see the results when the guide is updated in February.
