Yesterday, we got confirmation via Game Informer that Disney will be bringing Epic Mickey to the Wii. Now that the surprise is out there, it’s time to get the details.

Here’s the story. You remember those Disney stars (the cartoons, not Britney, Miley or the JoBros)? Well, these cartoon characters are cast aside into a dark void when they are no longer famous. They head to the forgotten world, run by Oswald the Rabbit. Oswald was the original Disney star, but was pushed aside when Mickey came to the drawing board, which caused his resentment.

Running the forgotten world, Oswald now has the perfect chance for revenge. Using The Phantom Blot, Oswald marks to end Mickey and his cartoon world by wiping them to oblivion. With the Blot, the villainous rabbit is able to pollute the Disney universe with sticky black ink which makes the colors run and fade (okay, to put in an easier analogy, think Loco Roco 2, where the mojas are killing the Loco Roco world with their ink and bleak existence).

Now, in order for Mickey to save the world he lives in, he has to draw and scribble through different levels. It’s sort of gonna be like one big coloring book as he will be faced with the challenges of repairing broken bridges by splashing the right color back to them. Need to erase through the rubble? The eraser is there at Mickey’s disposal.

Are you getting the picture now? Mickey’s tools will be drawing tools — which is perfect given that Oswald is trying to destroy their cartoon world with black ink. More exciting than this colorful world of art (which am sure kids and adult Disney fans alike would fawn over), is the announcement that Mickey will be getting “his first makeover in years”.

Eurogamer’s source said, “That’s why no one’s seen his face yet. But he’s far more retro than you’ve seen him for years.” As long as he doesn’t take the Britney Spears makeover route, I think we’re gonna be all good with whatever he looks.
