Pandemic’s Christie Cooper talks next-gen and game development

PandemicA few months back, we let you guys in on our interview with Pandemic Studios‘ Cameron Brown wherein he talked about, what else, Mercenaries 2. So why stop there when more people from Pandemic are speaking their minds right? Anyhow, going through IGN, we found an interview with Pandemic Studios Brisbane Business Director, Christie Cooper. The talk was quite hefty, so we’ll just give you the more interesting bits of it.

Of course, any interview with someone from the video game industry would have the usual “what are your thoughts on the next-gen consoles?” question. This is what Ms. Cooper had to say about that:

The guys in the office are going insane over the Wii right now – they love it. Except for those wrist straps! They haven’t broken any yet, though – which is surprising, since they’re pretty rough with it! I’m a PlayStation fan – I’ll go on record as saying it. Maybe it’s the girl in me, maybe it’s the controller. But my husband and son have been using the Xbox more of late, so the PS2 hasn’t been getting much attention in my house. I still prefer playing the games on the PS2 – and that’s just me.

At least we know what console she’s playing with her family at home and what she’s dabbling on when at work. She was also asked if it is still cost-effective to create platform-exclusive content, she mentioned that they have been a multi-platforms developer, traditionally speaking. Right now, she says that Pandemic Brisbane is looking at developing for the Wii, 360, PC and PS3. For the Wii, they are still evaluating the platform and they are not rushing into things since their reputation is at stake.

She also mentions that their game programmers and developers do not really prefer the 360 and Wii to the PS3. All three, she says have their pros and cons, but she admitted that the PS3 is a bigger challenge.
