“Physically Augmented Reality” Coming to your PSP?

This concept just goes to show the lengths people will go to heighten their PSP gaming experience. Shona Kitchen and Ben Hooker have concocted a concept dubbed as the PSP Site Specific System (PSP SSS), what is this all about? The imagined idea talks of specific places in the city for specific PSP communities. So instead of lounging in the couch while playing your PSP against other people who are physically distant, the SSS  provides a platform for the  ultimate physical-virtual gaming experience.

One good example is this video, the platform build above the road is deemed suitable for people playing racing games. The machinery in the video takes the form of a high-tech factory processing machine which has steel panels that are moved by pneumatic pistons. The enthusiastic players take their places thanks to the lift, then the panels are strategically positioned so that they fit neatly around the gaming area.

Then the panel below their feet is opened to add more reality to the gaming experience since their feet is dangling in the air and they can hear the noise of the traffic around them. Each player has an additional set of buttons attached to their PSPs that would enable them to to control the panels of their opponents which, personally I think is a good psy-war strategy (ha,ha!).

So far, this one is still in the drawing boards and it may remain there for a longer period of time if this concept does not get warm receptions from various gaming communities. But whatever happens, we gotta admit, that the idea is pretty unique. Whether this idea materializes is something that we should just wait for. In the meantime, as always, we will keep you posted.
