Flying Lab Software Lead Designer Kevin Maginn (aka Isildur) for Pirates of the Burning Sea recently talked about some of the MMORPG’s social aspects among other things in a recent interview. Despite having an exciting combat and economy features, Maginn shared that it is still vital for PotBS to have social interactions.

“Something we’re planning to do as we go forward is to really make the tavern experience central to social gameplay. A big part of this is players having the ability to own and manage their own social spaces. That’s not going to be in the initial release of the game, but it’s on the horizon,” commented Maginn.

Aside from that, the lead designer also talked about their immediate plans once Pirates of the Burning Sea hits video game stores. As of the interview, Kevin Maginn wasn’t able to give specifics but he did say that he wanted to deal with crew management, officer training, RSS feeds from the game servers, guild halls, and player-owned social spaces first.

Veering slightly away from above mentioned features, Kevin Maginn was then asked about the unique story arc for each player class in Pirates of the Burning Sea. Maginn provided this explanation:

What we call the “role playing story arc” is not defined by your career at all. However, we also have long story arcs that explore your career specifically (the Career story arcs); each of those is, like the role playing story arc, comprised of hand-crafted, custom mission content. Those missions really define, in terms of the content, what your career is all about.

It should be remembered that the pre-order for the game has been delayed. Flying Lab Software immediately apologized to fans and explained that this was due to Gods & Heroes returns processing. The title itself is expected to go live in January 2008.
