The war of the next-generation gaming consoles has just begun, with Microsoft making the first move with its Xbox 360, but the outcome might already me known (or at least hinted).

According to a survey from NDP Group, as cited by gamemag.ru, regardless of the fact that the console from Microsoft has already been launched in the US (with the big party and so on…we all have read quite enough about that event already), most users prefer to wait for the release of Sony’s PlayStation3 rather than spend their money on the Xbox360.

The survey, carried out among about 15.000 persons aged 13 to 44, has revealed that PlayStation 3 is the best known brand, followed by Microsoft Xbox 360 and Nintendo Revolution. Another major fact underlined by this inquiry is that Sony’s existing audience has a high level of loyalty to the brand, as the fans are ready to buy absolutely anything the Japanese manufacturer rolls out on the market. This is very important, because loyalty to the brand is what brings the highest amount of sales.

Well, considering all these facts, looks to me that the war might already be lost for the Xbox 360, unless it pulls a huge (Godzilla-like) rabit out of the hat. Of course, the final result will be decided after the launch of the PS3 next year, by comparing sales figures…but at that moment, the Xbox 360 will already be “old news”, and the PS3 will be a shining new toy. And as we all know, boys (who represent the majority of gamers) like their toys new and shiny.
