The countdown begins. Sony’s Playstation Portable is set to go on sale on September first across Europe. With this great news that the PSP will finally reach Europe (legally) we invite you to participate in a discussion and share the knowledge of where people can find a PSP for themselves. This will be a resource for people to find stores that have the PSP in stock, and places that are sold out.
Our friend Dale from thegamescompany.co.uk (who provided the images) let us know that the European PSPs will be shipped with firmware 1.52 on them and a separate UMD disc which will contain version 2.0. Currently neither firmware versions support the execution of homebrew code to be run on them, but Yoshihiro of team WAB is working on a way to downgrade a 1.52 PSP to 1.50. If you wish to use your PSP for homebrew, do NOT upgrade to version 2.0 as there is no known method to downgrade it.
Dale also tells us that there will be a note from concerned Sony who wants you to put in the demo disc and upgrade to 2.0. The note reads this:
“Important! Before using your PSP (PlayStation Potable) system for the first time, insert the Demo Disc included in this pack and switch on your PSP for the latest system for the latest system software update. It is only necessary to insert the disc once.â€
