Nintendo has announced the release of Puzzle League DS all across Europe on June 29. This casual game looks to be another “time-muncher” to add to your collection of puzzle games and can be had for GBP 20 (about US$ 40). Like Tetris, Puzzle Quest: Warlords, Puyo-Puyo Fever, and other puzzle games before it, it can be picked up and played for five minutes or a whole day without it getting old.

Gameplay is relatively simple: multi-coloured blocks move upward from the bottom of the screen, players must try to align three or more block which share the same colour. When this happens, the blocks disappear. It may sound simple, but the higher levels have these blocks moving upward at a fast speed so your lightning fast reflexes honed by playing on the Halo 3 Beta will definitely help. Like all puzzle games of this category, the longer “chains” or successive clearing you form in one go, the more points you get.

The game offers a single player mode and a multiplayer mode via local wireless or Nintendo’s Wi-Fi connection. The single player mode has multiple options to keep you entertained such as Garbage Challenge, Vs.com, Time Attack, and Daily Play. Local multiplayer has up to four players battling it out using only one cartridge so even friends who don’t own the game can join in. Wi-Fi has you playing against people from other locations. Each victory and loss is recorded which will either improve or degrade your current world standing.

Puzzle League DS is out now so if you’ve been looking for a puzzle game that has the potential of eating up your free (and not so free) time, be sure to check this out. To help you out, why don’t you check some of the screenshots of the game?
