Within the world of MMO gaming, nothing is quite as exciting as getting front row seats to the arrival of a new game or expansion. Now if martial artists, ghosts, and adorably cute sprites are right up your alley, then you’ll love to know what publisher Mgame is cooking up.

The company dropped us a line to announce that they are planning a couple of special events to signal the start of the Open Beta run of their upcoming MMORPG, Ghost Online. The said events will provide their veteran TT testers with some uber rare gear, while providing the newcomers with items to help them get started on their ghost-busting adventure.

Ghost Online‘s TT testers will be getting a special “Thank You” event, which will reward them depending on what sort of important role they played during their phase of the game’s development: Level 40 Breakers will receive the Breaker’s Weapon, TT Testers will receive the White Firabi, and the first TT bug reporters will receive the Premium Walk.

For the newcomers, there’s the “Weapons Keep Falling on My Head” event which will entitle 30 lucky candidates to Level 40 Enchanted + Powered Weapons. To become eligible, you will first need to get and activate your own event key. You will then need to play Ghost Online continuously for two weeks. Doing so will ensure your place amongst the winner’s list.

The second event being primed for newcomers is “Potions for Everyone,” which entitles you to 100 Soul Potions and 100 Health Potions. To take advantage of this event, players will need to activate an event key, and talk to the Blue Banker.

Ghost Online‘s Open Beta and its corresponding events are expected to begin this July 8, 17:00 p.m. (Los Angeles time). The events will last until the MMORPG’s full public launch. If you’re interested in joining the events, then send your e-mail address to [email protected] with the subject title: Ghost Online OB item event

A brief backgrounder

Ghost Online is an upcoming 2D Casual Action MMORPG, combining an interesting mix of wuxia-style martial arts, and mythical ghosts. The game includes a PvP system that enables you to duke it out with your fellow player. With battles ranging from simple one-on-one encounters to large-scale guild battles with 60 characters on each side, expect to see plenty of action in this deceptively cute package.

The story:

A hundred years ago, the land was plunged into a state of chaos as the people committed one atrocity after another, unburdened by their conscience. As the souls of these sinful individuals were not permitted to enter Nirvana due to their past crimes, they were doomed to wander the land as malevolent ghosts, unleashing their eternal grudge on those that lived.

The souls of those killed by these apparitions became wandering ghosts themselves, who in turn lashed out at the living. This cycle of death carried on until the world was plunged into chaos and destruction.

The Warriors of Chaos and Order, who had long battled each other, joined forces in an attempt to quell the swelling ranks of ghosts, and to finally put an end to the endless cycle of death. Outnumbered, and with no end to the numbers of ghosts in sight, it seemed that even this grand alliance would fall.

It was at this time, however, that a monk named Cradios appeared along with his 12 disciples to do battle with the ghosts. Desperate times called for desperate measures: Cradios used The Art of Yum-Ra Kihon to seal all the ghosts into a special charm, which he then locked away in the Sky Demon Temple.

The world was at peace, at least for a few years after the great wars. A young king was on the throne, and unknown to him, the eunuchs under his reign grew greedy and corrupt, exploiting their rank and the king’s own good name to execute terrible deeds. Word soon reached the young king’s ears however, who called out to the eunuchs to cease their malicious actions. He was a kind king, and decided not to punish them for their crimes.

Among those who joined their ranks were warriors of both Order and Chaos, and Yang, a former disciple of Cradios who was driven to bitterness and anger after his master chose Sam, another disciple, over him as a successor.

Yang proved to be more influential to the warriors than the eunuchs, and during the uprising, he decided to kill both the eunuchs and the king, making the kingdom’s throne his own. Yang declared himself a god, ordering all in the realm to obey his iron rule. Among his first orders was to kill Sam, his long-standing rival, who was also the guardian of the Sacred Sealed Charm at the Sky Demon Temple.

Things were not any better for Cradios, the realm’s former champion. In the years he spent searching for the Evergreen Herb in the Bloody Evil Cavern, Cradios’ heart slowly grew evil due to his use of the Yuma Kihon. One day, this evil finally took over.

The stage is set for your entrance, adventurer, if you choose to embark upon this great journey.
