Poor, poor Fred. How would you feel if you woke up one day to find out your office had been turned upside down, you’d  been brutally murdered, brought back from the dead, couldn’t remember much at all and to top it all off someone stole your head! Well I can’t speak for you, but Fred’s mad… very mad, and he wants revenge.

Dead Head Fred’s a twisted tale of murder and revenge with a healthy dose of good old fashioned 1940’s film noir thrown in for good measure. Savagely murdered and resurrected in a bizarre scientific experiment, our hero Fred wakes to find himself tied to a chair in his office with no memory, a splitting headache and worst of all, his head’s missing. Oh he’s got a head, but it ain’t his, and it sure ain’t pretty. What’s stuck atop his neck is little more than a jar containing his brain and eyeballs floating in a green sloshy liquid, and a pair of pipes leading from his voice box. I’ve had better days myself.

Along the way to find out just who did this to you (and return the favor) you’ll encounter a slew of fiendishly evil foes, wacky mutants and zany zombies. The ability to collect and switch heads during gameplay will imbue you with all new attacks, abilities and puzzle solving options. Navigate your way through the town of Hope Falls, through Creepy Hallow, Pitt’s Power Plant, and Freaky Farms on your quest for revenge.

The developers, “Vicious Cycle” promise open ended gameplay with the ability to solve puzzles creatively, explore interactive, visually stunning wide open environments and a variety of attacks dependent on whatever head you might have on at the time. Fred’s capable of collecting up to nine different heads for maximum cranial crushing power, four of which are “core” heads and can be called upon and used at any time, the remaining five can be exhausted require you to top up every now and again.

Some hands on time at this E3 revealed that the crafting of Fred’s misadventures is coming along just nicely, with slick graphics, smooth animations, oodles of atmosphere and sense of style that’s cool and edgy all at once. It’s tough to really give a character without a face a real personality, but watch the  first trailer and I think you’ll agree Vicious Cycle have done a bang up job.

If all that’s not enough you can also expect a neat bundle of side missions, bonus content and mini-games including Consensual Sax, (rrroowrr!) The Gran Ratismo, Dirty Pool, Head 2 Head Pinball, and The Feather Doom. Dead Head Fred’s due out in the first quarter of 2007, mark your calendars folks!
