Rebellion talks about Aliens vs. Predator PSP exclusivity

Rebellion answers Aliens vs. Predator PSP exclusivity - Image 1Rebellion Developments, creator of the original Aliens vs. Predator game on Windows, have hinted that its new game similarly entitled Aliens vs. Predator for the Sony PlayStation Portable was made exclusive based on logistics. Tim Jones, head designer at Rebellion, also described available player modes, control schemes, movie tied-in content, and the new video game’s PSP exclusivity.

According to Jones, Rebellion had little time to complete the game adaptation for Fox’s Christmas movie treat, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem. This problem of logistics pushed them to accomplish the game on a platform their company was already developing several titles for: Sony’s PSP. Rebellion Developments can be remembered as the creative hands behind Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron.

Jones also spilled new details on the game’s gameplay mechanics. Third-person viewpoint aside, controls were re-adapted to conform to the single-analog nub control of the Sony PlayStation Portable. The analog control will handle movement, while the shoulder buttons will turn the player’s view to the left or right. Precision aiming is also provided for the player, though it does not come with simultaneous movement while zoomed in.

Aliens vs. Predator for the Sony PSP will also come with a Survival mode, where an endless onslaught of Xenomorphs can be faced by either a single player or another buddy via ad-hoc connection. Also, though the game is based on Requiem, the game will not come with any tied-in movie content, such as footage. It will, however, carry the movie’s primary plot, though the event sequencing may sport “key differences.”
