RedOctane explains “Recall” problem

Red Octain explains Target shoppers couldn’t purchase Guitar Hero II for the Xbox 360 because of a glitch in the system. This caused much confusion regarding the status of the product since the cash register would state that there was a “recall” on the product every time someone tried buying the game.

The “recall” was attributed to a glitch in the system that Target is using. Target, like most responsible retailers, only starts selling a product when its street date has been reached. Apparently, Guitar Hero II was still locked by the system even on its launch date. Every time one of the personnel would try to sell the product, the system would simply record it as “Recall the Sale”. A lot of people attributed the said “recall” to the defective X-plorer controller’s Whammy Bar.

Bryan Lam, senior PR specialist from RedOctane, released an e-mail to clarify the situation.

The Target “recall” is NOT related to the whammy bar or a true “recall”.WeÂ’ve been informed this was an internal Target computer system glitch that was only an issue during the morning yesterday from 8-10 a.m., and the SKU was not flagged for sale. Essentially, that meant the product still had the street date lock out. When a product is flagged as street dated, the system rings it up as ‘Recall the Sale’ and won’t let the retailers sell the product. It should now be selling through and scanning just fine

So that’s one problem clarified, now with regards to the X-plorer whammy bar problems, he hasn’t given word on whether or not the cases are widespread or localized in certain areas. More on this as it develops.
