Rumor debunked: eBay pre-orders AREN’T cancelled by EBGames/Gamestop

Remember a few days back when the Evil Avatar forum had people hanging from the rafters due to a shocking bit of info? There had been whispers of EBGames/Gamestop (or what we’d playfully like to call “EBStop” for the sake of merging both names) voiding PS3 pre-orders if they were found in eBay. In short, rumor claims that if they find out that your main reason for pre-ordering a PS3 unit was to resell it on eBay, your pre-order would get the axe.

Well, well, well. EBStop (tee-hee) has just released a statement that they, in fact, are not canceling the preorders. They’re giving this rumor one mighty punch in the solar plexus and kissing it goodbye. Let’s repeat that:

PS3 preorders: ACTIVEPre-ordered PS3 units that are resold on eBay are NOT voided.

So, for those of you who have placed a bid (or are planning to) on a PS3 unit on eBay, it’s still active. However, we’re not sure if it will still be legit once Sony narrows in and calls foul play. They have, after all, issued a warning to consumers and recommend everyone to “purchase PlayStation products only from authorized SCEA retailers and resellers.”

For all it’s worth, whether these online auctions are cancelled or not, let’s just be vigilant in knowing the legitimacy of products.
