Rumor: New Wii colors being readied?

Rumor: New Wii colors being readied? - Image 1According to an employee at retailer Target, Nintendo might be planning to release more color variations of their Wii console. This speculation stems from an observation the said employee noticed with regards to how Target was cataloging their Wii units. More details are available in the full article.

RUMOR: Target giving insight into new Wii colors? - Image 1Is Nintendo making plans to release new color variations of their Wii console? The possibility’s been haunting us since last year, and based on a recent info snippet coming from an employee at Target, it just might push through after all.

The info comes from Go Nintendo reader Andy, who explains that he picked up some interesting details recently while scanning a Wii’s DPCI number at their store branch. As Andy elaborated:

Here is what I find interesting: Before Christmas, when an employee would scan the Wii, “Wii Console” would come up as its “title”. However, I noticed that when scanning the Wii barcode, that, instead of “Wii Console”, “Wii White” would come up as the title instead. Attached is a picture of a location print-up which illustrates the “Wii White” title. I find this interesting because what made Target change the title from “Wii Console” to “Wii White”, unless there is another color coming soon. When a Playstation 3 is scanned, it doesnÂ’t say “Playstation 3 40GB Black”, it just says “Playstation 3 40GB”. IÂ’ve found Target to know about many things before they are released, such as having the iPods listed as “Discontinued” a week before the new ones were announced.

Given that’s all the information we’ve got for now, we advise the readers to treat this as a rumor, at least until more info can be found. Still, we imagine there’s plenty of guys out there who’d love to get their hands on more than just the as-common-as-Vanilla white variety of Wiis (Without having to resort of warranty-voiding mods).
