SCEA: FCC filing doesn’t mean US will get white PS3

Sony PlayStation 3 white - Image 1Did the news of an FCC filing for the white PS3 unit shed hope onto your fragile little hearts? Well, too bad: Sony Computer Entertainment of America (SCEA) said that the FCC submission doesn’t mean squat when it comes to the possibility of North American gamers getting their hands on a white PS3 unit. Check out why in the full article.

Sony PlayStation 3 White - Image 1Heads up for some (quite) disappointing news, PlayStation 3 fans: despite the news of a recent FCC filing of the white-colored Sony PS3 unit that is currently exclusive in Japan, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the differently-colored unit will be launched in North America.

When asked by gaming info site Shacknews, a SCEA spokesperson explained that the FCC filing is just a routine practice for Sony and have already submitted similar FCC entries in the past. The spokesperson continued:

[We] are comfortable with our current two SKU strategy. We are continually evaluating the market trends and consumer input to determine the appropriate PS3 models for our territory.

Well, there you have it. In case the white PS3 really won’t end up washed in North American shores, you can always take the best, yet expensive route: importing the unit.
