SCEA: No plans for US release of Silver PlayStation 3 - Image 1As you guys will recall, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan came out earlier with the announcement of a new Satin Silver PlayStation 3 for their territories.

This latest addition to their 40GB line of units will be made available by March 6 at a retail price of  Â¥ 39,800 (US$ 371), along with a separate Satin Silver Dual Shock 3 controller.

Now, in case you’re thinking the Sony just might release this new color to North America, that might not be the case. A spokesman from SCEA had stated during an inquiry that “there are no plans for a silver PS3 in North America at this time.”

Look on the bright side – the rep didn’t say straight out that they were not releasing the unit. It looks more like the company would rather that the unit’s initial Japan launch goes through smoothly.  Besides, there’s always the import option which may bag you some extra features to go along with your system. We’ll let you know if anything new turns up.
