SCEE to help universities by providing discounted PSP hardware and tools

SCEE to help universities by providing discounted PSP hardware and tools - Image 1There have been a number of instances in the past when students come up with a video game of their own and then the big companies like Sony pick them up for mass distribution. Given the new relationship Sony Computer Entertainment Europe is building with universities, it seems that we will all be seeing more of those in the future.

SCEE DevNet Manager Sarah Lamarie was at the Games:Edu day of the Develop 2007 conference and one of the announcements she made was a deal that will allow universities to have access to development-standard PlayStation Portable tools for teaching purposes.

Lamarie added that the deal will be bounded by a non-commercial agreement. Signing this will give universities the privilege to purchase hardware and tools being used by studios and developers at discounted price. More interestingly, the manager also mentioned that students will also be given accounts for a special branch of the SCEE developer website.

The said branch will contain documentation, source code, and discussion forums to nurture cooperation.
