Sony clarifies FW 2.50: no games support screenshot capability yet

PS3 FW 2.50 - Image 1Still busy ooh-ing and aah-ing over the many new features in FW 2.50? Well now, here’s a little bit of clarification on the in-game screenshot function: a Sony representative explains that, though the feature is already activated once you upgrade you system to FW 2.50, you actually won’t be able to try it out just yet because none of the games out there actually support it yet.

LittleBigPlanet - Image 1So how’s that brand spanking new firmware 2.50 doing, eh? Still playing around with the new features, yes? Oh we bet you are – new Trophy system, Bluetooth headset support, and a bulk load of other changes to keep you guys busy ooh-ing and aah-ing.

Here’s a little bit of clarification on the in-game screenshot function though. A Sony representative confirms to PSU that, though the feature is already activated once you upgrade you system to FW 2.50, you won’t be able to try it out just yet.

There aren’t any games that support the screenshot capability just yet, but we know there’s a lot of excitement among PS3 owners for this feature and would expect developers to begin offering it moving forward. Supporting titles will be announced in the future.

Which is fine, I guess. Remember when Trophy support was first introduced? It took a while for games to start incorporating their Trophies, but now, it’s pretty much become a standard with most PS3 titles already.

So for now, we just sit and wait with a non-useable screen capture feature. But sure enough, the momentum will eventually pick up (just as Trophy support did) with more and more games to incorporate it.

Here’s to looking forward to that list of games to support the screenshot feature!
