Sony continues advertising campaign: ‘PlayStation 3 now in India’

A report by Kotaku pointed out Sony‘s marketing drive for the PlayStation 3 in India, following its not-so-recent launch. Apparently Dave, a Kotaku reader, pointed out that there were no overblown or massive news coverage of the launch, but then that’s expected of a country with tons of problems to sort out.

It appears though that Sony isn’t giving up on the Middle East and is continuing its marketing efforts in the region. A latest update by Dave pegged the PlayStation 3’s price tag at an eye-popping, pocket-burning 39,990 Rupees (US$ 986.19) which he notes as AU$ 200 (US$ 165.18) higher than what an Australian fan would have to shell out.

Now we’re not sure about the reasons for the high premium for gamers in a developing country, but we’re betting on the stockpiled import tariffs as a winner. Because dedicated or gaming specialty stores are rare in India, Dave added that Sony’s next-gen console could even be found at local music stores and pop-culture retail chains. A PlayStation 3 in Planet-M, who would’ve guessed?
