Sony Laptop Caught Fire In Kansas

Sony VaioAfter the numerous reports on the exploding Dell laptops raged on, here is another fire report that spells additional trouble for Sony. Firefighters are alarmed to a house fire in Shawnee, Kansas after a Sony Vaio laptop burst into flames.

The laptop started to shoot flames in all directions while homeowner Juli Kupperman was at home reading e-mail on a different computer. After extinguishing the fire with a fire extinguisher, the laptop again burst into flames while she was on the phone relating the incident to her husband, Paul. Paul notified 911 right away and headed for home. Luckily, the only damage was a smudge on the wall and fire extinguisher dust on the furniture.

Kupperman said that his laptop computer was turned off but was charging at the time of the fire. With this his wife had a lesson for every laptop owners, “I would say don’t leave your laptop plugged in when you’re not right there with them.”

The Kupperman’s laptop used a Sony lithium-ion battery, which is different from the Sony batteries recalled by Dell earlier this month on account of being flammable.
