PlayStation 3 - Image 1 As consumers in Europe slowly start picking out their big holiday purchases, Sony makes its move and launches a lucrative campaign to ensure that those purchase plans wander along the lines of “PlayStation 3.” How lucrative? Well, only about £ 82 million worth.

The first wave will be made up of TV ads, each describing the range of services available through the PS3 system. Among the top include the Blu-ray player, downloadable video content, and even the BBC iPlayer. “Two years after launch, PlayStation 3 is realising its full potential,” said Alan Duncan, UK marketing director. “The console is moving beyond gaming and gaming is moving beyond discs.” The first of those TV ads will air in the UK tonight.

Quite notably, SCEE hasn’t invested in a marketing push of this size since the launch of the PS3 nearly two years ago. Christmas time will definitely see the consoles going on full war mode since we’ve got a PS3 and an Xbox 360 going head to head firing at all cylinders, and a Nintendo wanting to stay on top.
