After all the rumors have been debunked about Sony Ericsson releasing a PlayStation branded cell phone, Jim Ryan, co-chief operating officer of Sony, has resurfaced interests in the project by saying that a PlayStation Phone was “definitely plausible”.
Jim Ryan had this to say on the matter:
The PlayStation is a proven success and so is Sony Ericsson. Convergence with the two arms working together is definitely plausible. It is hugely intellectually seductive to have a console oriented phone.
The functionality of such phone would mostly center on it as a gaming device rather than integrating it into the design of a standard cell phone. For one thing, most gamers wouldn’t appreciate a gaming device with a such small screen and a limited key size.
The U.S. Patents and Trademark Office has already received an application from Sony Ericsson for a mobile device with video game features. So does this mean we’ll be seeing a glimpse of this unique gadget some time soon?
Don’t get your hopes up, though. Ryan hasn’t pegged a date when this cell phone may actually be put into production, if ever. However, things are looking up for those gadget geeks waiting to get their hands on a true blue gaming gizmo and cell phone all in one gadget.
