StarCraft 2 Q&A batch 26: on Protoss lore, abilities and blue flashes

A Protoss zealot ready for battle - Image 1It would seem that the “death” of the Protoss have gone the way of deaths in the sugar-coated version of Dragonball Z – according to StarCraft 2 lead writer Andy Chambers, the mysterious blue flashes that Protoss units emit upon “dying” is indicative of something else.

Blizzard has more info on that in the full article, conveniently located after the jump.

Fortunately for StarCraft fans, Andy Chambers, Blizzard‘s lead writer for StarCraft 2, was happy to shed some light on the matter of StarCraft 2 Protoss abilities, as well as that of the mysterious blue Protoss “death” flash in batch 26 of Blizzard‘s Q&A series.

According to Mr. Chambers, the blue flash that Protoss warriors emit upon “dying” is actually a teleportation failsafe. The Protoss actually have teleport mechanisms built into their battle armor, which tend to kick in once the Protoss unit has been critically injured in combat.  The mortally wounded warrior is then transported to the nearest safe haven. From that point on, the Protoss may opt to continue fighting as a dragoon or as an immortal, or join the Protoss gestalt embodied in the Khala.

Furthermore, Chambers said that Protoss casters in StarCraft 2 can share mana with each other for maximum casting efficiency. Also, the energy shields that protect Protoss warriors are based on the same psionic energy processes that the Protoss have been known to use.

As a side note, Blizzard blue poster Karune has also reported on the strategic use of the Protoss Nullifier’s force field ability.  If you wish to read more about Karune’s experience, just click on the source link below.
