Still a long ways to go: Gran Turismo 5 only 65% complete *UPDATE* Japan gets March release window

Gran Turismo 5 - Image 1Uh.. okay. This certainly puts a wedge on the excitement and anticipation for Gran Turismo 5. It’s practically been some three years in the making now, and, well, we were kinda hoping it’ll be released by the end of the year. So what’s this we’re hearing that GT5 is only 65% complete?

Uh.. okay. This certainly puts a wedge on the excitement and anticipation for Gran Turismo 5. It’s practically been some three years in the making now, and, well, we were kinda hoping it’ll be released by the end of the year, you know, as that GamesCom brochure that Polyphony Digital handed out with a December release date said.. So what’s this we’re hearing that GT5 is only 65% complete?

Yeap, it looks like the organizers at Tokyo Game Show has taken the time and patience to gather up the facts from the developers/ publishers in order for them to collect estimates as to how far along are their games going.

65%. If you’re gonna choose to  look at the glass half-full, that’s more than halfway done. If you’re more of the pessimist type, well, then that’s barely halfway done.

If it’s any consolation, though, Final Fantasy XIII is said to be 90% complete. Almost there, definitely! Check out the list:

  • Okamiden: 25%
  • Lost Planet 2: 70%
  • Valkyria Chronicles 2: 70%
  • Yakuza 4: 65%
  • The Last Guardian: ?
  • Crackdown 2: ?
  • Alan Wake: ?
  • Halo Reach: ?
  • Final Fantasy XIV: 50%
  • Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker: 50%
  • God of War III: 60%
  • Heavy Rain: 50%

Guess the GDC 09 forecast rings out loud and true then: Gran Turismo 5 will be released when it makes the most sense.

*UPDATE*

The second part of Sony‘s press conference (yes, they pulled out a long one) is currently ongoing at the TGS, and they have just announced that Gran Turismo 5 will be coming out in Japan by March of next year.

No word on the other regions, but that announcement pretty much scraps out the “December 2009” release window that’s been circulating the rumor grounds.
