Team Ninja: The PS3 is the most powerful system out there, Xbox 360 still a great console

PS3 - Image 1You can bet Xbox 360 fanboys won’t like this one. Yosuke Hayashi and Hitoshi Hasegawa of Tecmo‘s Team Ninja sat down with Gamasutra to talk about their current and future plans. They both agree: the PS3 is the most powerful system out there. But despite this, they still maintain a diplomatic stand, saying that the Xbox 360 is still a great console.

After the lawsuits and labor controversies back in June, Hitoshi Hasegawa and Yosuke Hayashi of Team Ninja want to see better days. They sat down with Gamasutra to talk about their current and future plans.  They both agree: “the PS3 is the most powerful system out there.”

“For any developer that’s been working on all of the platforms that are available today, I think they would agree that the PlayStation 3 is the most powerful system out there,” Hayashi notes, also citing that they’ve been very satisfied with the cooperation that Sony has been giving developers. Hayashi also says, from a developer and consumer standpoint, that we haven’t seen the fullest of its potential.

When it comes to console gaming, most developers make games for both the PS3 and Xbox 360 because of the cost of developing games, which compromises a lot of things. Hayashi points out that if they were to work exclusively on one console, then the final product would be much better than a multiplatformer.

Although they want to create the best possible game, and to do that they’ll need to focus on one console, Hayashi maintains that their primary focus is their fan base – so they will continue interchanging work with the consoles as necessary. While the PS3 “is the most powerful system out there,” Hayashi still maintains that the Xbox 360 is still a great console.

The Xbox 360, in our point of view, has all-around integrated aspects and elements that have… basically, coming out with the Xbox and 360, Microsoft has had a lot of experimenting and research that they were able to do in order to make a brand new gaming console and hardware piece.

But moving forward, we are interested in seeing how they are going to take that to the next level as a gaming console. We would like to be able to be a part of that experiment.

As far as their success with the 360 goes, Hasegawa believes that they wish to maintain Team Ninja’s “made in Japan” theme in the western-made console. Instead of globalizing, they insist on their team’s identity. But at the same time, they’re making sure that they cater to a worldwide audience.
