Telecom is going after the portable gaming market, announcing that PSP (PlayStation Portable) users can connect wirelessly to other players using Xtra Broadband home wireless networks and at its Telecom’s 200-plus wireless hotspots.

PSP is the new handheld entertainment system from Sony which delivers 3D games, full-motion video and stereo audio in a portable device with a 4.3-inch-wide screen, high-resolution TFT display.

Telecom’s general manager of new media said the combination of the “mind-blowing” entertainment experience of the PSP with the choice of broadband networks from Telecom provides for “an incredibly engaging experience”.

This view was echoed by Sony Computer Entertainment New Zealand’s general manager Warwick Light: “With the power of PSP and the coverage of Telecom’s broadband networks, it really is possible to enjoy a wealth of online entertainment experiences.”

Xtra Broadband account holders can now connect to a Telecom wireless hotspot (www. telecom.co.nz/ wirelesshotspots) with their PSP for free, but usage will count towards their monthly high-speed allowance. Other PSP users can connect using a Telecom wireless hotspot prepaid card.
