Tetris Dispute Between THQ and The Tetris Company Now Settled

TetrisTHQ, a regular licensor of the Tetris game, was sued breach of contract by the Tetris rights holder, The Tetris Company. However, examination of THQ’s recent financial results show that the legal dispute on the use of the Tetris license has already been settled.

This is good news for all the Tetris lovers who want to see the title go to the Xbox 360. The settlement means that THQ will now be publishing the Western version of Tetris: The Grand Master Ace for Microsoft’s next-gen console, the Japan version of which was published by AQ Interactive.

THQ’s original licensing agreement with The Tetris Company is supposed to run until 2007, although it is not clear whether this is still the case or if the new agreement between two companies will only be for the Xbox 360 version of Tetris.

What is certain, though, is that there will be no Tetris DS from THQ in the near future. Well, DS owners do have the Nintendo-published Tetris DS to play with. For all you Xbox 360 owners, it might not be long until you get to play the classic game on your consoles.
