The Red Star‘s original incarnation might not have had a smooth ride, but XS Games is giving it another go to reach a new audience.

 

The company, who took over The Red Star when original developer Acclaim went belly up, has announced that they’ll be releasing downloadable versions of it for the PSP and the iPhone. there’s not a lot of details yet, but XS has set an “early Spring 2010” release for both versions.

 

The Red Star mixes together the action, shooter, and fighting genres in a story set in a futuristic Soviet Union where magic-users are used as soldiers. It throws in some RPG elements into the mix as well by way of upgradeable character attributes.
