The Wiide World of Wii Sports of gameplay videos

We can’t call it “pentathlon” because GameTrailers only had these gameplay vids for four out of the five sports in Wii Sports. (What did they do, forget about golf?) Sigh. We’re this close to tee-off time for the Wii and its bundled and highly-promoted title, it’s a wonder that GameTrailers is still coming out with their gameplay vids.

At least these direct-feeds feature what looks to be the English version of Wii Sports (unless the Japanese version is multilingual), and we can glean some gameplay clues out of them – not that we’ve seen and heard all the clues from previous previews. So, here’s GameTrailers’ Wiide World of Wii Sports, and a bit of gameplay commentary from us.

Baseball: Is it just us or does it look like the players are still trying to get a hang of this game? (Either that or they’re more suited to TEE-ball…). “Swung too early…” “Swung too late…” It looks like swing timing’s going to be your main weapon in this

Boxing: Perhaps the most disturbing thing about this vid is that some guy has the balls to fight a girl. What’s the world coming to? (Not that gender matters to a Mii, it seems.) Three standard rounds of boxing. Looks like you can weave and dance a bit in the ring, but you can’t float like a butterfly all over the ring, in Ali parlance. You can still sting like a bee, though.

Tennis: Perhaps one of the more previewed, and analyzed sports in the Wii Sports package, we can’t say anything new to add to this video. Except the GameTrailers team (blond hair with glasses) could use some lessons from Andy Roddick, maybe.

Bowling: What’s so interesting about this vid is that, as Matt Casamassina observed, Wii bowling’s got both range and sensitivity of control, as this vid demonstrates. Fast balls, slow balls, hooks, and curves – you name it, this vid’s got it. And is it just us, or did the female Mii enjoy payback for getting the lights knocked out of her in boxing?
