Tie-up of Big Companies Geared to Provide Better 3G Service

NECMatsushita Electric Industry As 3G phones have become a phenomenal success in Japan, big cellphone companies are trying to grab at least a part of that blooming mobile phone market. Matsushita Electric Industry, NEC and Texas Industries have confirmed that they are considering a joint venture that will enable them to set up facilities in Japan to develop core cellular phone parts together as early as this summer.

This move is inline with their goal of minimizing each company’s R&D costs in the development of 3G handsets aimed at the Japanese market, making them cost competitive. Those handsets that are going to be developed will be released in other regions where 3G service is available.

The 3G service enables subscribers to send videos and to download Internet content from various sites at high speed.
