From IGN’s most recent interview with Todd Howard, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Executive Producer, we’ve learned more juicy bits about the game that will be released on the PS3. The talk revolved around Knights of the Nine and Sony‘s role in the future of this blockbuster RPG, especially concerning the downloadables and add-ons. A lot of Oblivion fans were surprised about the announcement of the Knights of the Nine quest, which brought in more hours of fresh gameplay — with new goals and missions, new tools, new creatures and an entirely new game content altogether. Does Bethesda still have more surprises to reveal?

Asked why Oblivion fans should play the game on PS3, Howard’s answer was simple: You won’t be missing out on the much-anticipated platform-consistent next-gen graphics that the PS3 offers. Of course, the Xbox has already given everyone a taste of real Oblivion adventure. Those who don’t own Xbox 360s and PCs running the game and are planning to buy the PS3 might as well go for it, however, as Bethesda is sure to offer more stuff upon Sony’s go signal.

And what will these ‘more stuff’ likely be? Howard tells us that the PS3 downloadable content might just follow the Xbox 360’s pattern, for as long as Sony’s console can handle it. For example, when asked about a bonus disc release for non-broadband users, he stresses that “This is more of a technical issue for the console. Our content works, but has to work within the constraints of how it gets there. So if that is an option, we’ll certainly take advantage of it.”

But there’s a catch. In the PS3 version of the game, there won’t be any additional new items and creatures apart from the Knights of the Nine. The new quest actually is the crux of the game — the downloadable content, according to Howard, is actually designed to work with a game that is in-progress and won’t work with a new one. Knights of the Nine is designed to be the new add-on that would work well no matter where you are in the game. Therefore, there won’t be special editions like those in the Xbox 360 and the PC. The PS3 version comes out in standard edition only.

The interview apparently leaves us more questions hanging in the air that we would egg Todd Howard if we could just so we get the answers. But for now, we’ll just keep up with the news. Stay tuned!
