Tomy profits take a hit from Wii and DS sales

Tomy Logo - Image 1Tomy, the makers of Zoids and other toys have reported that their profits did not reach their forecasted 5 billion yen (about 42 million US dollars). They are projecting a profit of only 1.7 billion yen (about 14 million US dollars) this year to March. They blame the fact on the release of the Wii and Nintendo DS.

Tomy mentioned that most of the people are splurging on these new consoles and that more traditional toys aren’t as popular anymore.

Despite this fact, their sales forecast still hasn’t changed at 170 billion yen(about  1.5 billion US dollars). Where this will leave regular toys, we don’t know, but we would like to believe that more traditional toys will always have a place in our society – even if it is a place below our beloved Wii and DS!
