Trophies on the PSP: Technical difficulties make it challenging

Sony PSP - Image 1Last June, Director of PSN Operations Eric Lempel broke a  lot of gamer hearts when he flat-out rejected the idea of having trophies on board the PSP. The reason was that it will be very prone to cheating, and, well, that’s just not fair. Today, we’re hearing somebody else from Sony talk about the matter, pretty much echoing the same thing. Not just anybody, actually. This month’s bearer of PSP bad news: Shu Yoshida, president of Sony Worldwide Studios.

PSP Trophies? - Image 1

In an interview with PlayStation: The Official Magazine, Yoshida was asked if the PSP will ever see the light of day when Trophies abound and roam the handheld  free. His initial answer  almost raised up hopes. Almost.

“It’s under discussion,” he started. “But there are some technical challenges.” These may be overcome anyway, right? Right? Hello?

Okay, while there’s nothing else to say about the issue of trophies on the PSP, he did veer the discussion to the motion controller and the availability of games at launch, including their target audience.

Obviously we are looking at the ease of use of the motion controller to attract a broader audience, but when we work this new technology, because it’s so precise, we can see a lot of functions for core gamers’ games. Like a first-person shooter would be great, walking around a room ducking and hiding. We’re looking at all kinds of possibilities.

Okay, that sounds great. Now back to the trophies.

Hello?
