Ubisoft wants to beat EA

Ubisoft wants to break free from EA's grasp completely, “Our goal is not to sell to EA but to beat EA.” Those were definitely some fighting words from Laurent Detoc, Ubisoft‘s North American head, as he hopes their company can show their superiority over the well-established Electonic Arts company.

This budding rivalry has been growing ever since EA bought 20% of the company. Ubisoft didn’t want to get taken over, of course, so they’ve fought tooth and nail for a firm foothold and a chance to strike back. For the most part, Ubisoft’s hopes are on a string of succesful series and the value of the Wii to help them take on a giant.

How so? By betting on the Wii to increase their popularity while making games for the other consoles as well. Ubisoft’s plan includes having eight different Wii titles during the launch phase of the Wii, including Rayman Raving Rabbids, Splinter Cell: Double Agent and the Wii’s slash-shooting FPS Red Steel.

Ubisoft will have a big mountain to climb, however, as EA’s annual revenues are at the 3 billion-dollar mark, while Ubisoft’s are at 750 million dollars, Still, even a well-placed smack to the head can take down a giant, so you may just be surprised. What are your predictions for this battle, given the releases they’re coming up with for the different consoles? Think Ubisoft can pull off something spectacular to make their dream come to?
