Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia first details

Prince of Persia initial art - Image 1 The game Prince of Persia is and forever will be a classic. From its earliest iteration as a platform game on the Apple II, it has always had a solid following among gamers everywhere. While some people disliked the return of this classic game on the relatively newer consoles, many people found playing the prince to be a blast (as proven by the sales figures). As the story progressed and more games came out, the prince showed a darker side of himself, and the game became grittier and more combat oriented.

Now, another chapter in the Prince of Persia saga is being written as we speak. It seems that Ubisoft is taking the role of storyteller once again; Ubisoft will be the publisher and developer (it appears that Ubisoft Montreal is developing the game).

The new game will not be a continuation of the trilogy that heralded the return of the prince. Ubisoft is crafting a new tale which will be the start of a new saga in the ever-chaotic life of the prince – although some have theorized that perhaps this game would return to its Middle-Eastern roots.

For the veterans of the previous trilogy, it seems that the prince will have a new love interest in the new game. OK, that and a magic gauntlet. It is yet unclear how this magic gauntlet will be used, but it will most likely have something to do with the weapon system of the game (for example, having different weapon configurations).

The game for the PS3 and the Xbox 360 is expected to be released in 2008. On a side note, it seems that the Prince of Persia movie by Disney will be released that same year. What a year 2008 will be for Prince of Persia fans!

Also, although it seems that Ubisoft hasn’t revealed a final name for the game, people are already calling it “Prince of Persia 4” – don’t be confused if you see that name being used on this site or elsewhere.
