Blu-Ray logo - Image 1Universal Studios was once known as one of the biggest backers of the HD DVD format. With the emergence of Blu-Ray as the format of choice, the company finally announced its strategy to support the format.

Universal Studios will be entering the Blu-Ray market with the release of The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, and The Scorpion King this July 22. After that, the company plans on releasing 40 movies in the second half of this year.

It seems that most of the companies which backed HD DVD have finally gotten over the format wars and are now looking forward to releasing more content for the masses. Be that as it may, the other companies who supported Blu-Ray have had a headstart so we can expect that the HD DVD backers will probably have to work doubly hard to establish market dominance.
