Updates on the DS version of FF Crystal Chronicles

Better gameplay this time around? If you’re blessed with the ability to discern Japanese, and you’ve been trolling things released on Famitsu then this isn’t exactly hot news for you. If you’re not a polygot, then you might find this interesting.

Apparently the gameplay of the DS game, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates actually has, or so says IGN, a more complex gameplay system. Thanks to the fully 3D world, surface height actually has an effect on battle.

Oh snap, and here we were worried that the GameCube to DS move will be reason for some dumbing down.

As always combat is once again action-based, and up to four players can fight coop on the battlefield. As with the original the button setup is simple; however this time, the stylus can be used for direct manipulation of the menu. Like the simplicity of the button setup the targeting menu also makes a return.

You can now jump, and you don’t have to worry about the menus getting in the way of the action on screen as all of the options are on the bottom screen and all of the action is on the top screen.

As for connectivity, Toshiyuki Itahana, has said in an interview with Famitsu, that Crystal Chronicles is meant to be played as players speak to one another in order to time their actions. So, the game will have close proximity wireless play. However, connectivity past that is still up in th air. Internet-based play via Wi-Fi is still being looked into. Itahana said that there’s a possibility of a different type of play through Wi-Fi. Famitsu speculates that perhaps item exchange and downloads would be fused to the new title.

If you’re the solitary type, the game has a story mode for single players, so don’t worry. You’ll experience the story of Yulie and Cherinka, a brother-sister pair of twins that are said to be born from a single force, whatever that means. If it serves as any consolation, it seems that this immaculate pair of twins are far from being anything similar to a Russian pop-group, so the story that is rooted in family-love is still safely on the side of good taste.

A demo of the game was shown at Jump Festa, so we’ll update you guys if we find any Gameplay videos or what-not floating around.
