Yes, you have read the title correctly, it is now possible to record video footage from your favourite game using this excellent piece of homebrew from coder ADePSP. Rather than a standalone application, this is an add-on module for the much-loved savior of homebrew Booster that allows PSP users to use fw1.5 and fw2.71 on a single PSP.”>DevHook, and it extends the functionality of the existing screenshot module. ADePSP modified some of the source code from Edison Carter‘s Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories Cheat Device animated GIF video function  incorporating it into DevHook to allow you to do the same for pretty much any PSP game!

Animated GIF’s can be recorded at any time whilst using DevHook, whilst in the middle of a PSP game or in the XMB, allowing you to record out of game clips of things such as game menus and loading animations. This module features two modes: normal mode which records at a resolution of half the screen size or advanced mode which uses the PSPs full screen size. All files will be saved in the PSP/PHOTO folder.

Files tend to be reasonably large when using this module, so be sure to check that you have a bit of memory stick space before using, but don’t worry, you won’t corrupt your memory stick with this – it has a built in function to stop when it runs out of memory stick space. There is even a GIFAnimator.exe program which has been specially designed to compress the GIFs without loosing quality if you plan to place the animated images online.

Requirements:

  • Firmware 1.5
  • Devhook by Booster

Known issues:

  • Doesn’t currently work with all PSP titles due to a few resolution issues but most modern games work. If you see a blue bar when recording instead of a green one the capture will be corrupted. The following games have be confirmed not to work:
    • Tekken
    • Dynasty Warriors
    • Splinter Cell
    • World Tour Soccer Demo
  • Has been known to crash sometimes if recording when a game is loading. There is no danger to your PSP or your memory stick here although it can be slightly annoying. Just try to avoid recording when games are loading up and you’ll be fine.

Well thats about it from us, but make sure you read the Readme for installation instructions. The ‘Install.exe’ file should be the only thing you need if you are a Windows user, but if you are using any other Operating System or have problems with the installer consult to Readme.txt for instructions on how to install the program manually. Have fun recording your own home movies.
