War of the Worlds: a PSP FW2.81 invasion?

PSP FW 2.81 straight from the factory

Run for cover! Head for the hills! Something is about to invade our world, and it’s neither Tripod robots from Mars (H.G. Wells style) nor is it Ponies and Kittens. FW2.81 is about to invade us! Ummm… Or is it?

0okm has posted a curious little picture at his blog and it’s sending shivers down the spines of the homebrew community. It’s a picture of a box that’s supposedly shipped straight from the Sony factory and it’s of a PSP with FW 2.81. Yes, Sony is manufacturing FW2.81 PSPs. Put two and two together, and before you can say “downgrader“, the next batch of PSPs would already be out in stores, thereby making the FW 2.71s unavailable.

Take this with a grain of salt. There doesn’t seem to be any indication on the box that it’s 2.81. But if what 0okm says is true, some of you guys might want to start stocking up on FW 2.71s and selling them on Ebay or something. And if it really is true, don’t worry, there’s still going to be downgraders available (hopefully).
