“We Want Women to Go For Wii” Says Ninty President

Wii female gamerSelling a video game console to a woman may seem to be no biggie, but take it from Ninty president Satoru Iwata when he tells you that it’s no easy feat. In fact, he even mentioned that selling gaming consoles to women is like “trying to sell cosmetics to men”. But with the rise of metrosexuality in post-modern society, selling Ninty’s next-gen console to women may turn out to be Nintendo’s ace in the upcoming console race.

In his interview with Bloomberg, the Nintendo honcho mentions that tapping the female, non-gamer market could help Wii break console boundaries. He mentions that he want it to appeal to “mothers who don’t want consoles in their living rooms, and to the elderly and to young women.” With the success of the DS Lite in the previously untapped female gamer market, things may be looking peachy for the company.

And it seems that Iwata isn’t alone in this philosophy. Enterbrain president and Famitsu editor-in-chief, Hirokazu Hamamura also mentions that the Wii could become “the most popular console of all time” because non-gamers will see how fun it is to play with it by simply watching someone throw a Kamehameha Wave in Dragon Ball Z: Budokia Tenkaichi 2 for example.

And with games like Cooking Mama, Rayman Raving Rabbids, Wii Sports, and Big Brain Academy, what kind of woman could resist the  gaming temptation simply called Wii?
