Wii Launches In Germany And Japan In October?

Wii

Tucked squarely away in the rumor section, this little tidbit comes from the fine folks at GoNintendo.com who claim to be getting reports that the Wii will be hitting Japan and Germany in October. First reactions are likely to be a hearty “hell yeah!” from gamers everywhere, likely followed by “dude, that’s in like, four months, I better start savin’!”.

GoNintendo sites a release list issued by THQ in which their upcoming Spongebob game, Spongebob Squarepants: Creature from the Krusty Krab for Wii is listed as launching in October alongside other versions of the game. Now it is possible that someone somewhere at THQ slipped up and simply lumped the Wii version of the game in the same release list as the versions coming out on other consoles, but thinking that way isn’t much fun is it?

Upon closer inspection, launching the Wii in October would make sense timing wise for Nintendo as it would give both Wii and Sony’s PlayStation 3 some much needed breathing room. If both consoles had launched in November, along with Microsoft’s insurgence of top tier games rumored for the Fall, it would have been a sad, sad day for gamer’s wallets, and possibly even worse for the big three as they’d risk canceling each other out. One has to wonder though, why launch in Germany first rather than the UK or US? (no offense to our Germanic neighbors of course, but it is somewhat unorthodox)
