Will MMORPGs make veggies out of us?

mmoaddictI heard Sarah McLachlan once said that we all get born each time in a single lifetime so that we undergo lots of births and deaths, and live many lives in the process. Deep, huh? Guess it just occurred to me when I read this little article by David Wong about how MMORPGs are going to change our world and give us another kind of life within a life. Read on as you might spot something weird about Dave Wong’s propositions.

He said everyone will look like a Greek god or goddess. Fair enough. This supports another theory that “you will find yourself momentarily forgetting whether you’re in the real or virtual world” or “you’ll be taking  the ‘G’ out of “MMORPG.” With avatars, costumes, and all types of body armor, I don’t think anyone will consider wanting to go back to real life – especially when no one does the laundry for you.

“You’ll meet a couple who have been married for years and have never seen each other’s real-life faces.” There’s one question though, what does their baby look like?

“There will be a whole class of wealthy people without a dime to their name.” Take that, Donald Trump!

It’s interesting to note that, according to him, we all want to stay at home and interact virtually with everyone, like one WoW addict who confessed he went down the drain after more than a year of playing WoW. In reality, I’d shun the thought of that. We MMORP gamers simply cannot agree though, that we’d want to sit at home all day and live in the metaverse, with a virtual government, virtual wealth, virtual sex, virtual jobs…if does that happen, I’d end up a  broccoli who couldn’t stand up to hand myself the remote!
