The best things in life are free, and allows you to battle Adolf Hitler in a robot suit. I’m talking about the classic 1992 game Wolfenstein 3D now available for the iPhone. The game was ported by none other than id Software‘s John Carmack himself, the guy behind Commander Keen, Doom, Quake, and of course, Wolfenstein 3D.

Wolfenstein 3D for the iPhone was sort of a pet project for him. It’s an open-source project, and it’s free. Carmack gets my thanks and is now my new man-crush. He also says that a Doom port is coming soon.

There are several changes he made to the game of course. You start with double ammo on a fresh level start, and if you die you restart the map with basic stats. You don’t have to start the game at the beginning and you can just jump from one level to another. As Carmack explains, “the challenge is to /complete /a level, not /get to/ a level.”

There are other changes you can read about in Carmack’s full post. You can download the file by following this link. You’ll need a jailbroken phone to play it of course.
