WoW Europe Forum: Devastate to revert in 2.1

A Dwarven Warrior - Image 1Another point of clarification has just been announced for World of Warcraft‘s upcoming patch 2.1, with the focus being on the game’s warrior class.

As Halgreg posted over at the official WoW Europe forums, not too many warriors are happy with the recent changes that were made to the Devastate talent’s revamps in 2.1’s run in the PTRs. As Halgreg explained:

Please change it so that Devastate can also benefit the 1h/shield set. Currently, Devastate does 50% weapon damage for both the mainhand and the offhand plus additional damage for sunders. Keep this, but if someone is wearing 1h/shield, have Devastate do 50% weapon damage for the mainhand, and shield block value for the shield damage, plus additional damage for sunders. This will further encourage protection warriors to stay as sword and board when grinding and pvping because it makes this arrangement more viable.

What Halgreg means is that while Devastate stacked damage for dual-weapon wielding warriors, defensive build (sword and board/tanks) warriors only counted the damage from their one-handed weapon. The discussion was calling for Blizzard to make it such that Devastate stacked damage based on the equipped shield’s block value, instead of an offhand weapon.

This tweak just isn’t meant to be, however, as Blizzard spokesman Drysc replied that “The change to Devastate in 2.1 is being reverted and will not be a change for the patch once it goes live. We’ve done some additional damage testing and the output is in far excess of what we had thought it would provide,” meaning the company has decided to remove the additional 50% damage stacked from offhand weapons as well. Not exactly a good day for warriors in the Europe, although we advise readers to keep posted in case more news pops up.
