WoW’s character transfer error messes with users’ money

Losing a lot of money hurts your wallet, and your sanity. If you remember, Blizzard‘s been offering character transfer services in World of Warcraft for a few months now. It’s actually not the point of much media concentration when it works, but you can be sure that when something happens to it, everyone’s going to cover the news. We’re no exception to that phenomenon and, unfortunately, it isn’t good news.

There’s a problem happening with Paid Character Transfers (PCTs) on the European servers at the moment, leading people to an error page when they attempt to transfer from one server to another.

As annoying as that is, the main problem isn’t that the PCT is currently on the fritz. According to posts on the WoW forums, each attempt, even if it fails, takes away 20 euro from the user’s bank account. While there should be a way to get that money back eventually, repeatedly trying to transfer will still take money away from your available total, even if it isn’t being charged to Blizzard as yet.

Mixed reports on the various forum posts are saying that it’s affecting both debit and credit card accounts, though we’ve yet to verify those claims. Users are clamoring for posts from the community managers or mods, but the main post from Blizzard’s end (which we’ve sourced below) has not mentioned an estimated time for any fixes, and have temporarily disabled PCTs.

With a blocked up customer service number filled with users concerned over their money being taken, we can only hope for a speedy and positive resolution to the problems with Blizzard’s MMO.
