Xbox Live Spring Update

xbox liveWell Xbox has promised us two Xbox Live updates a year. The spring update is supposed to be released within the next couple of weeks. With this update there will be many, many new additions. A few of which I am very happy for.

One update is that the blades and menus seem to be reasonably quicker. No more waiting for the achievement lists to load. Another update, which is meant to go along with the new xbox camera, is that one will now be able to have two gamer pictures. One of these will be for the general public, while the second will be only for people on your friends list, where one can post a picture of him or herself taken with the new xbox camera. Also for the new camera, one will be able to attach a picture to messages now, so one will be able to send a “nice” victory wave to a just beaten friend.

The friends blade will also have a new feature.  There will now be an idle setting for those who haven’t touched their xbox in 15 minutes. Next, the Marketplace is getting an huge overhaul for organization – a much needed one at that. It is also rumored  that there will be game strategy video downloads in the Marketplace. This could be a good thing if you suck at the games you have, or a bad thing if you are up in the ranks because now there will be more of a challenge.

What I personally think is going to be one of the best additions with the spring update is the ability to be able to download in the background while playing games.  On top of that, you can put six different downloads in a list.  When the download in the first position finishes, it will automatically jump to the second one and start downloading it.  Then to prevent lag, the downloads will pause when an Xbox Live game is started, but when exited the download will start up again.

Next, the custom soundtrack is now uninterruptible, and the volume settings will save which means no more having to turn up the volume every time a Xbox is booted.  Another nifty feature is resume spots in DVD playback – the Xbox will now remember the last place in  DVD to go back to after interrupted to go play a game or just turning the system off.  Also a new setting will be added to either A) boot to the disc in the console, or B) be able to boot directly to the dashboard

There will also be a couple of other minor updates to the new Xbox Live.  I’m am certainly excited about the updates.  Do you think that Microsoft left out any big updates that you wanted?
